A LOCAL employee has taken on dozens of running events to cover more than 1,000km in aid of local charities.

Noel Urwin, from Stocksfield, has raised £5,251.36 through sponsorship for various charities by running the distance.

He has completed a staggering 57 running events over the last year with sponsorship from his employer Egger.

The challenges have taken place in all weather conditions, and in one weekend alone he racked up 100km.

In total, Noel has completed 1,193.49km, which is the equivalent of running from Hexham to London and back.

Noel has worked at EGGER since 1988 in the lamination department and is now production manager for lamination at the company.

As part of the company’s Egger Runs scheme, Noel was sponsored €5 per kilometre, which meant he was able to raise £5,251.36 for his chosen local charities.

He has chosen to donate £500 each to the mountain rescue teams at North Tyne, Scarborough and Ryedale, Northumberland and Cleveland.

The remaining £3,251.36 will be donated to Noel and EGGER’s chosen charity, Gateway into the Community, which works with people who have learning disabilities throughout West Northumberland.

Noel explained: “Running is something I love to do, with the added benefit of staying fit and active.

“I’m delighted that EGGER Runs has been able to help raise money for the local charities I have chosen to support.

“I am very proud of my achievement and I am looking forward to running throughout 2020.”

Bob Livesey, commercial director at EGGER Hexham, said: “Noel’s achievement is great testament to him and we are delighted to have been able to support him throughout his challenge.”
