A 40FT Christmas tree (pictured right) was lifted in to Hexham Market Place on Tuesday in preparation for the town’s Christmas festivities.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Egger’s dedicated Christmas team, Arthur Harvey and Melvin Fawcett, positioned the tree with the help of a 60t crane.

Egger has donated a Christmas tree to the town every year since 2008, but this year’s tree is the biggest at 40ft, and has been sourced from Kielder Forest.

The tree arrived at 5.45am via local timber haulier R & H Scott, and was in place by 7am.

Arthur Harvey, engineering manager at Egger, said: “Mel and I both take great pride in putting up the town’s Christmas tree. It takes centre stage at so many different events during December, so we take great care to ensure it looks it’s best.”

Mayor of Hexham, Bob Hull added: “Every year, EGGER donates a Sitka Spruce from Kielder to form a central part of the town’s Christmas celebrations. This year, the tree is even bigger than before and we hope it will bring plenty of festive cheer to the town centre.”

Hexham’s Christmas lights switch on is November 29.
