TWO Tyne Valley businesses have been named the best in the North for their high quality services.

In their annual awards, Living North Magazine named Chesters Stables in Hexham ‘Self Catering Accommodation of the Year’ following the Grade II listed buildings full renovation in 2018.

Built in 1891 as stables for the Chesters estate in Chollerford, the historic building had been falling to decay before being transformed into holiday lets and now offers seven luxurious, self-catering suites in a picturesque, peaceful and private location.

Features include mezzanine floors and glass frontages, with each stable suite unique in its design, and paying tribute to the buildings historic past.

Guests have the option to call upon their own designated driver to take them to enjoy the wealth of luxuries at nearby Walwick Hall Hotel, which the stables are part of a complex of, owned by Rachel Batson.

Awarded the title of ‘Restaurant of the Year’ by the magazine was Hjem, based in Wall.

Only opening in May this year, the Scandinavian cuisine has already made a name for itself with locals, tourists and food critics alike. It was the project of Swedish chef Alex Nietosvuori, who started his culinary career working in the two Michelin-starred restaurant, Daniel Berlin Krog, and his partner Ally Thompson.
