THERE was royal delight at Hexham Racecourse as the Queen enjoyed success with her first runner at the course.
No Trumps was the first horse owned by the Queen to compete at Hexham, and it justified its favourite tag at 11/8 by winning the Weatherbys Racing Bank Handicap Hurdle on Friday.
Ridden by jockey Tom Buckley, No Trumps chased the leader down before four out and challenged well before staying ahead to clinch the victory.
Robert Whitelock, the manager of Hexham Racecourse, said: “The racecourse was delighted to have the Queen’s horse here and we were thrilled for her success.
“The horse clearly liked the ground, and the course.”
Racing returns to Hexham on Wednesday afternoon.
