There was plenty of Halloween fun at Hexham and Northern Marts on Friday thanks to a seasonal competition organised by staff from the cafeteria.
The Hexham mart cafeteria’s Halloween pumpkin competition was put together by Lesley Buchanan and Karen Ballantyne from the Tynedale Function Suite.
“We didn’t really advertise it much,” said Karen. “It was all a bit last minute, but we ended up with 11 entries and there were some others that were in the competition.
“Some of the farmers brought pumpkins in for the children to carve.”
The competition was judged by regular cattle buyer, Jim Barr, who comes to Hexham each week from his farm near Glasgow. A pumpkin carved by Thomas Armstrong, depicting a devilish grinning face, was picked as the winner, and all the children received a prize.
