DRIVERS are being urged to take extra care on the roads after a night of heavy rainfall on Monday.
Reports suggest the A68 at Kiln Pit Hill was down to one lane on Tuesday morning due to problems with surface water blocking the road. Emergency services were called to the scene.
Meanwhile, motorists had to take extra care to negotiate parts of the A695 at Riding Mill, Farnley and Corbridge due to standing water on the carriageway.
According to the Met Office, the rain is expected to ease off by Tuesday afternoon with only a 10 per cent chance of further showers after midday.
