A SIGNALLING fault caused delays for several hours to rail services between Carlisle and Hexham.
Train operator Northern said trains had to run at a reduced speed on the Tyne Valley line between Cumbria and Northumberland as a result of the issue this morning (Monday).
Operatives from Network Rail arrived on site after 8am to rectify the issue, and services were back running as normal by 10am.
A spokesman from Northern said: "The 5.44am Carlisle to Nunthorpe service was first affected and was delayed by 28 minutes."
Compensation can be claimed by passengers if services are delayed by 15 minutes or more.
