A COMMUNITY pulled together after a neighbour was diagnosed with terminal illness, raising money to thank nurses for providing care to the family.
More than £1,000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support by the people of Hexham after Nathan Cook, Lewis Mennim and Daisy Beer-Smith decided to shave their hair off in the town’s Wetherspoons pub.
Nathan’s father David (72), who lives in the east end of Hexham, was recently dealt the blow that his pancreatic cancer was terminal, so the trio decided to shave their heads in return for sponsorship.
David’s wife, Nicola, said: “We have had the nurses from Macmillan coming in every day and it is because of what we are getting from them so we wanted to give something back.
“We have also had a lot of support from friends and family, and they wanted to help when they decided to get their heads shaved.”
