IT was an eye-opening experience for schoolchildren as they discovered 150 years of history on their school’s milestone anniversary.
Acomb First School celebrated the milestone with children, parents and members of the community before they broke up for half term.
Gordon Scorer, secretary of Acomb History Society, covered the school’s history in a presentation to the children, and the history society put dozens of photographs on display depicting events throughout the years. Meanwhile the local WI put on a celebration buffet and a made a special anniversary cake.
The doors were then opened to the community to explore the displays. Headteacher Beth Clarke said: “Lots of families have been in the village for many years.
"We have parents of children, grandparents and even generations beyond that who have been to Acomb school, so it’s an important celebration for us as a whole community.”
