A PLEDGE for additional police officers for the Northumbria force area has been praised by local MPs.
Hexham’s MP Guy Opperman and Anne-Marie Trevelyan, representing Berwick-upon-Tweed, welcomed the recent announcement that Northumbria Police will look to recruit an extra 185 officers by 2021 as part of the Home Office’s announcement last week that it aims to bolster the ranks of police forces in England and Wales by 20,000 over the next three years.
In a joint statement, the Conservative MPs said: “An extra 185 police officers Northumbria is a welcome boost in the fight to keep people safe and fight crime across the North-East.
“These new recruits are a clear message to criminals about how serious this Government is about tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and a warning to anyone thinking of turning to crime that we will be out to stop them.”
