ROAD safety bollards which help to slow down traffic on a Prudhoe street have been damaged by vandals.

The bollards on Castlefields Drive are unpopular with residents and the town council has asked the county council to remove them as part of the local transport plan.

But before their removal could be arranged, vandals decided to take matters into their own hands,

County councillor for Prudhoe South, Gordon Stewart, said: “The bollards have been removed using a cutting device, a professional engineering tool. It’s not just kicking them off.

“It creates a danger to road users, and it costs the tax payer money, as well as council staff time and resources. It also doesn’t give the right impression of the town.

“We’re looking at other ways of ensuring road safety, including the possibility of reducing the speed limit.”
