LEEKS, vegetables and flowers took centre stage as local people turned out to show off their best entries at a popular show.

The open Flower, Fruit and Vegetable Show organised by Slaley Leek Club took place on Saturday, and the Commemoration Hall was packed with a superb display.

Vegetables were on show as well as bumper entries in the junior and flower classes.

While it had been another challenging year for leek growers everywhere, organisers said the benched leeks looked terrific despite the difficulties.

Clive Weatherley took a clean sweep of trophies including both the Stoddart Memorial Cup for the best pair of leeks and the C.W. Reed Challenge Trophy for the best leek in show.

There were over twenty creative entries in the junior vegetable creature class with Bea Stephenson winning first prize again this year.

And Oliver Hart and Lilly Hall won first prizes in the junior leek competitions.
