THE work carried out by a rail volunteer has been recognised on a national level.
Julie Gibbon, a director and company secretary of Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership, received the outstanding volunteer contribution accolade at the national Association of Community Rail Partnerships awards.
A resident of Bardon Mill, Mrs Gibbon has been instrumental in developing new project ideas within partnership, particularly making a successful bid to CrossCountry to fund a tourism development intern scheme.
More recently, she secured £500,000 for the redevelopment of the old waiting rooms at Haltwhistle Railway Station.
She said: “This award is not just for me. The partnership is a team of many players and I could not have achieved it without them.”
