DOUGY Makepeace was the winner at Haltwhistle’s New Inn Leek Show.
His entry of 143.24 cu ins saw the seasoned grower finish ahead of runner-up Paul Makepeace, and also retained the championship he won last year.
There was consolation for Paul, however, for his efforts of 136.11 cu ins earned him best leek in show.
Kenneth Makepeace was third with leeks of 136.43 cu ins.
The Norman Banks Memorial Shield, for the most improved leeks, was awarded to John Hall. Highest placed lady at the show was Val Monaghan.
The New Inn leek show took place at the town’s Comrades’ Club, It has been a firm fixture in Haltwhistle for decades, having originated at the former New Inn pub. The committee expressed their thanks to the Comrades’ Club and its staff for their role in making this year’s show a success.
