THE people of Corbridge look set to have a memorial bench installed in their village as a thank you for their generosity.
David Burnett, of the Corbridge branch of the Royal British Legion, attended last week’s Corbridge Parish Council meeting to ask for the council’s support of the proposal.
He said: “Annually we raise an average of £6,000 to £6,500 in the village so we just want to give something back from the local branch from us to say thank you to the people in the village.”
He explained that the branch hoped to have the bench in place before the 75th anniversary of VE Day in May next year, and fund-raising was ongoing to pay for it.
Councillors supported the proposal and Mr Burnett said he would come back with proposed locations.
