DESPITE a year of unpredictable weather, leek growers turned out in force for their annual village show.

Held in the Wark Town Hall, Wark and District Leek Club members again competed for the top trophies.

Judge Tony Wright was responsible for examining the prize produce, and Robert Baty for hosting the award ceremony, where members of the public could also take a peek at the exhibits themselves.

After much deliberation, Tony awarded the title of show champion to Gavin Potts, who also came away clutching the award for the best leek in show.

In the Super Six’ category for leeks over six inches long, Clive Hymers scooped the trophy for ‘Super Leek’.

It was not just leeks on display, though, and Mr Baty was in the prizes himself in the industrial section with victory in the home baking classes.
