A MAN has been arrested and a woman hospitalised after a car crash near Wylam at the weekend.
Northumbria Police were called to an incident on the the Ovingham Road on Saturday after a car hit a tree and caught fire.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking. A 22-year-old woman, thought to be a passenger, had to be taken to hospital.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "Just before midday on Saturday, we received a report a car had gone off the road and hit a tree, causing it to ignite on Ovingham road, near Wylam.
“Officers and emergency services attended the scene and a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.
"He has since been released under investigation. A 22-year-old woman, believed to be the passenger, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
