A NEW project has been set up to help start-up creative businesses find their feet.

Allendale Forge Studios is offering budding entrepreneurs three months free rent at one of its in-house studios to give young businesses a chance to grow.

Applicants would be joining the vibrant community of creators who already run their small businesses through the co-operative’s gallery and gift shop.

One such business owner is Clare Edwin, trading as LollaMac, who began designing and creating sterling silver and mixed metal jewellery in 2016, after a complete career change.

Shortly after starting, Clare was offered discounted studio rental for a limited period by the Forge board, and now continues to sell her work successfully through its shop.

“I used to work at home on the dining table, eventually moving to a workbench in the garage. It was a pretty uninspiring place to work, so having my own studio space has transformed both me and my business,” she explained. It has been the best decision I’ve been made for my business.”

Sandy Rutherford, chairman of the Forge, said: “Being part of a like-minded community can be stimulating for anyone starting a new business.

“We want to help by offering a temporary lifeline to those with a clever idea but who are currently short on space and tight on cash.

"We hope they benefit from the respite and decide to remain with us.”
