A SESSION of classical music concerts have made return to the heart of Hexham.

Hexham and District Music Society announced a new international line-up for its new season.

The programme started on September 22, with the first concert presented jointly at the Hexham Abbey Festival, featuring the Danish quartet KOTTOS with their recorders, concert accordion, guitars and cello.

The wind ensemble Boxwood & Brass will play Beethoven on October 15, and will be followed by the Zimro Trio on November 15 in a programme which includes Mozart and early 20th century jazz-inspired pieces.

Young pianist Vadym Khololdenko comes to Hexham on January 28 with a programme featuring music from Schubert and Rachmaninov.

On February 20 there will be a concert spotlighting the double bass with Toby Hughes and pianist Daniel King Smith.

March 16 will see the arrival of the Sacconi Quartet, a string quartet with a fast growing reputation, who will be performing music by Haydn, Beethoven and Mendelssohn.

The season closes on April 3 with the Pelléas Ensemble playing music for flute, viola and harp.

Their programme includes music by Debussy and an arrangement of Prokofiev’s ballet music for Romeo and Juliet.
