POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an assault following a minor collision.

On the morning of Saturday, July 6, officers believe a silver VW golf and a dark coloured Audi were involved in a minor collision in Hexham.

The VW Golf left the area and travelled towards Newcastle on the A69, and it was then waiting on the A69 slip road to Lemington Road Ends at about 11am when the same Audi car pulled alongside it.

Police said the driver of the Audi then got out of the car and assaulted the driver of the VW Golf.

The 36-year-old victim suffered cracked ribs and a broken jaw during the assault and now police are appealing for witnesses.

PC Helen Davison, of Northumbria Police, said: “This was a serious assault that followed what was a very minor collision.

“If the driver of the Audi was aggrieved about what happened then he could have contact police but he has taken matters into his own hands.

“There is no justification for the use of violence in this situation and we are treating this incident very seriously.

“An investigation into the incident is ongoing but we would ask that anyone with any information about the assault contacts police.”

Anyone who witnessed the assault, or has information that may assist police, is asked to contact officers on 101 quoting log 505 of 06/07/19.
