POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an 89-year-old woman was seriously injured after her car hit a tree on the A68.
The emergency services were called to the one-vehicle crash on the Broomhaugh roundabout near Riding Mill at 12.10pm on Wednesday.
The woman, who was the driver of the silver Mazda 2 and the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to the RVI after fire crews had to remove the car doors to free her.
The road reopened at 4.30pm.
