A pizza delivery woman was left “terrified” when a man entered her vehicle and then made off with two bags of food worth £23.

Mark Stubbs had been with another man when they approached the delivery vehicle at Union Road in Gretna at the weekend.

When the driver saw them approaching she became wary and tried to lock down the door but just couldn’t get it to work.

And a court heard that 30-year-old Stubbs opened the door and then put his arm out and grabbed the two bags containing pizzas and a cheeseburger and made off.

Stubbs, of Esk Road, Gretna, was later traced at his home by police and at Dumfries Sheriff Court admitted entering an insecure vehicle and stealing a quantity of food.

Fiscal depute Gemma Halliday said|: “The delivery woman was terrified and this affected her confidence in her job.”

Solicitor David Orr said that Stubbs suffered from depression and had been prescribed Valium and claimed that it was the other man who had picked up the food.

Sheriff Brian Mohan imposed a community payback order with a condition that Stubbs carry out 60 hours unpaid work.
