CARLISLE could become a star of the world’s biggest board games - for the second time.

Twelve years after a special Monopoly game centred on the city was launched, details of a new version will be revealed today.

The launch of The Lakes Monopoly will take place on the shores of Windermere.

And people from across the county are being urged to have their say on which parts of Cumbria should feature - with Carlisle, which has previously been branded the City of the Lakes, one of the contenders.

A Monopoly spokesman said: “The new unique edition will see the famous Monopoly game addresses like Mayfair and Park Lane give away to Lakes favourites and landmarks such as Windermere and Penrith Castle, with the public being formally invited to suggest landmarks over a one-month long voting period.”

“We expect to be wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this game together,” said George Shrimpton from the Monopoly: The Lakes Edition makers Winning Moves UK.

“The public is being invited to vote for their Lakes favourites to feature in the game. Some landmarks look like absolute shoo-ins such as Lake Windermere and everything Wordsworth in the 250th anniversary of the Lake District’s most famous son – or daughter. We welcome and invite all suggestions.”

Other contenders include Beatrix Potter’s House, Brantwood, Muncaster Castle, Wastwater and Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway station.

Mr Shrimpton added: “The game will feature the great and the good of The Lakes. We are extremely excited to be producing it.

“We invite organisations and businesses that want to star in the game to contact us direct – and also from the public as to what landmarks should feature.”
