A POPULAR parish show will celebrate its 175th birthday this weekend.

Corsenside Parish Show is expected to draw crowds once again when it returns on Saturday to West Woodburn Village Green.

The industrial marquee will be packed with exhibits including fruit, veg, flowers, baking, handicrafts and children’s classes when it opens at 1pm.

A new class to enter this year is ‘a hand-knitted item for a premature baby’, with entries in this section to be donated to the Tiny Lives charity at the RVI.

There will be plenty to keep visitors of all ages busy including adults and children’s quoits, children’s games, face-painting and balloon modelling.

New this year is a climbing wall from Northumbria Army Cadets, Birds of Prey from Falconry Days at Simonburn and children’s fancy dress.

There will also be a bar, tea-tent, ice-cream, candyfloss and hot food, and county councillor for the area John Riddle presents the trophies at 4.30pm.

There will be a sale of produce at 5pm, and the celebrations will continue into the evening with live music from local singer Jason Arnup from 6pm to 9pm.
