A STRETCH of the A69 was closed this morning after a car crashed and landed on its side.

Northumbria Police responded to reports of a crash near Throckley just after 6am on Monday.

Nobody was injured in the collision, but the road was closed eastbound between Ponteland Road and the A1, causing tailbacks of around a mile.

One lane on the westbound carriage was also closed.

A spokeswoman for the police said: "At 6.05am on Monday, we received a report of a one vehicle collision, involving a car on the A69 eastbound at Throckley.

"Officers and emergency services attended and found a grey Nissan had come to rest on its side.

"The occupant of the vehicle was not believed to have sustained any injuries as a result.

"The road was closed while emergency services were in attendance but has since fully reopened."

The road reopened just before 8am.
