A man had to be winched to safety by the Coastguard after injuring himself near a waterfall.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team were called out on Monday when a man injured his ankle near Gilsland.
The team struggled to evacuate the 40-year-old who was stuck on some steep ground close to a waterfall.
A rescue team spokesman said: “Due to the difficulties of evacuating the casualty in the steep terrain, a Maritime and Coastguard helicopter that was training in the area was called to assist the team in the safe evacuation of the casualty to hospital.”
The operation involved 13 volunteers, and took two hours to complete.
