ALMOST a year after they were stolen, postboxes have finally been replaced.

Three antique postboxes were stolen from Causey Hill, Maiden’s Croft and Beech Hill in Hexham in September and the thieves remain at large.

After being lobbied by Derek Kennedy, Northumberland county councillor for Hexham West, Royal Mail has replaced all three, with the recent installation at Causey Hill completing the job.

Coun. Kennedy said it was a relief that the items had been reinstated as they were well-used by more elderly residents in those areas.

He said: “At last, after a year of toing and froing with the Royal Mail, we have the three replacement boxes in place. It is a disgrace that thieves stole the antique postboxes in the first place.”

Coun. Kennedy believed the postboxes had been stolen as they were deemed valuable to collectors.
