A PROMINENT building in the centre of Hexham will soon be occupied again.

Newcastle Building Society, which already has a branch on the street, will move to bigger premises on Beamount Street when it rolls in to the former Dickinsons Furnishers building.

The building has stood empty since December 2017 when Dickinsons went into administration, leaving dozens of staff without jobs and almost 1,000 customers without their paid-for goods.

This week, stickers appeared in the building's window informing passer-bys of the society's intentions to set up shop.

More to follow.
