THREE men are due stand trial next year facing charges relating to a collision in which a woman died.

Andrew Reed (27) of Westmacott Street, Ridsdale, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday facing one count of causing death by dangerous driving, as well as one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and one count of committing an act with the intent of perverting the course of justice.

The charges related to an incident on June 25, 2018, when Isabel Gilchrist was killed following a collision on the C200 near Kielder. Daniel Gilchrist was also seriously injured in the crash.

It is alleged that Reed was driving a Scania Tipper lorry dangerously on the road which caused the crash. He is accused of then removing the vehicle from the scene and changing a defective tyre.

He appeared alongside John Clark (74), of Brierley Gardens, Otterburn, and Nicholas Clark (41), of Middleburn Farm, Simonburn, who were both charged with perverting the course of justice.

They are both accused of concealing a defective vehicle from police following the crash.

The men pleaded not guilty to the charges and are due to face trial at Newcastle Crown Court on February 17, 2020.
