GRAFFITI by young people is on the increase, it was reported this week.

In a report given by Northumberland county councillor for Hexham Central with Acomb, Coun. Trevor Cessford, at Monday’s meeting of Hexham Town Council, it was revealed that police had received extra reports of graffiti recently.

Shelters at Tyne Green Country Park and the bridge at Warden had been particularly targeted.

Speaking after this week’s meeting, Coun. Cessford said: “Every so often, we get a surge of children doing naughty things and they get their hands slapped and move on to somewhere else or they stop doing it for a few months.”

Coun. Cessford’s report also relayed figures about concerns of anti-social behaviour from travellers heading to and from Appleby Horse Fair, saying a total of 10 reports were made to police.
