A PLAYING field is set to get new goalposts after a council agreed to fund them.

Prudhoe Town Council agreed to pay for the goalposts for the grassed area behind Castledene play area.

It is hoped that the new posts will improve the amenity for youngsters playing football on the pitch.

The council’s newest member, Coun. Martin Foster brought the issue to the council’s meeting on Wednesday, July 31. Coun. Foster explained that the current goal area was in a poor state of repair.

He said: “The kids in Castledene would really appreciate it if it would be possible to get some new goal posts.

“There’s one goal in there at the moment and it needs to be pulled down. It’s all rusty, it’s not safe.”

Councillors unanimously agreed to spend £490 to pay for two goals. The land is owned and maintained by Northumberland County Council, but the green spaces officer said it would have no issue with a goal being installed. The town council’s clerk, Sarah Eden, added that used goals were only slightly cheaper and postage costs would offset the difference.
