A PUBLIC meeting looking at how Hexham can tackle environmental issues will be held on Thursday.

The meeting at St Mary’s Church Hall, at 7pm, called ‘Climate Change... Local Solutions to Global Issues’, will see activists from local groups concerned with environmental issues come together.

Organised by the Labour Party, the event will include a section from Jamie Driscoll, North of Tyne Mayor, on the campaign for Labour to adopt a transformative Green New Deal.

Penny Grennan, Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Hexham, will invite activists and members of the public to join a discussion on developing local solutions to the climate crisis.

Those invited to attend include Climate Action Hexham, Extinction Rebellion, Transition Tynedale, Climate Change Northumberland, Churches Together, Hexham Town Council, Hexham Community Partnership, Hexham Hub, and other local organisations and members of the community.

Contributions will be taken from the floor on identifying suggestions for next steps in building the campaign and developing a set of objectives for a local programme addressing local and global issues.

After ideas are discussed at the meeting, it is hoped a follow-up meeting can then be held in autumn to develop the plan further.
