A TEENAGER was taken to hospital on Tuesday after falling nearly 30ft at Crammel Linn waterfall, near Gilsland.
Northumberland National Park and North of Tyne Mountain rescue teams attended with paramedics at 5.15pm on Tuesday after the young adult male slipped and fell, hitting rock ledges before landing in the water.
The Hazardous Area Response Team from North East Ambulance Service and doctors alongside the community paramedic provided a high level of pre-hospital care, whilst the evacuation from a difficult to access location was determined.
A HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was requested and a Rescue 199 from Prestwick was deployed.
A technical rope rescue system was rigged by team members to raise the casualty on a stretcher to a location slightly higher up the slope to winch onto the helicopter.
The incident involved 18 team members and lasted four hours.
The casualty was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after a four hour rescue operation.
