BRITAIN has learnt who its new Prime Minister is as the result of the Tory leadership contest was announced today.

Boris Johnson, the favourite become leader, fought off competition from Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

Mr Johnson recieved 92,153 votes compared to Jeremy Hunt who recieved 46,656. The turnout was 87.4 per cent.

Mr Johnson will officially become Prime Minister on Wednesday after Theresa May visits the Queen at Buckingham Palace to formally tender her resignation. 

Before today's announcement, Hexham's MP Guy Opperman said he will be supporting whoever wins the leadership contest.
