AFTER learning his friends used the service, a kind-hearted schoolboy made it his mission to gather donations for a food bank.
Sam McBride (11) organised a non-uniform day at his current school of Corbridge Middle, asking pupils and teachers to donate items to West Northumberland Foodbank instead of money, to help out his friends at a previous school whose family used the service.
And the pupils at Corbridge more than obliged, bringing in bags upon bags of food to help support the cause.
Sam said: “A few of my friends at my old school didn’t have as much money as they needed and had to use the food bank.
“When I heard the food bank was running out of food, I just thought we needed to help. I was expecting people just to bring one or two items, but I was overwhelmed by the support from the school.”
