YOUNG Girl Guides are preparing to be inspired by an ambassador who is running the length of the country barefoot.

Girl Guiding ambassador Anna McNuff is running 2,620 miles barefoot, from June to November, in the Barefoot Britain challenge and is aiming to talk to as many Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and family members as possible.

Clare Overton, leader of Wylam Brownies, said the Tynedale East Division of the Girl Guides felt “extremely lucky” to be welcoming Anna to talk.

“The aim is spreading awareness of Girl Guiding and inspiring the young girls and women to say ‘you can do anything you want to do, don’t let anybody or anything be a barrier to what you want to do’,” explained Claire.

Anna’s talk, at St Oswin’s Church Hall in Wylam on Wednesday, July 31, focuses on her adventures which have included cycling the 50 states in the USA and running the length of New Zealand.

Clare said the talk would be interactive, including things to show to the girls from her various adventures, as well as leaving the girls with a message to make a promise to themselves to be inspired to do something.

“Our girls are really excited,” she said.

“She’s really inspiring so they think it’s amazing, and we’re really lucky that she is coming to see us.”
