MUSICIANS hailing from Tynedale are gearing up to play at one of the North-East’s most popular music festivals.

Hexham-born singer Pete Doherty is set to headline Lindisfarne Festival at the end of August. The former Libertines and Babyshambles frontman will be performing with his new band, The Puta Madres.

The band will be performing in the headline slot on Friday night, showcasing a blend of psychedelic rock, post-punk revival and garage rock.

Joining Doherty will be punk rock outfit China Drum, who hail from Ovingham. Formed in 1989, the band consists of frontman Adam Lee, guitarists Bill McQueen and John Steel, bassist Dave McQueen and drummer Kate Stephenson.

During their original 11-year run, China Drum performed across the world and toured with the iconic American rock band, Green Day in 1994. The band will be headlining the festival’s Dingle Dell stage.

Tickets are still available for this year’s Lindisfarne Festival, which takes place at Beal Farm on the stunning coastline opposite Holy Island. Now in its fifth year, organisers are gearing up for the festival’s biggest line-up so far. Rock band Ocean Colour Scene, Dub stars Gentleman’s Dub Club and Jungle pioneer Goldie all set to perform.

The BBC Introducing line-up, which has seen Tynedale artists given a chance on the big stage in the past, is still to be announced.
