A VILLAGE in the North Pennines has held is first ever picnic day.
Residents of Carrshield came together in the shadow of Barneycraig mine shop for a day of activities.
The day featured a best-dressed dog show, a duck race and pottery demonstrations.
There was also a welly throwing competition and a run for both adults and children.
Brian Scorer took top spot in the adults’ race, while Taylor Hollingworth won the children’s race.
Organiser Alwyn Woodcock said the day was a success.
She said: “We had a brilliant day and the weather was kind.
“The duck race went well and pottery demonstrations were held all day by our resident potter Julie Smith.
“All the money raised will go towards our renovation funds to create a village hall and arts centre in Carrshield in the old mine shop building.”
The Grade-II listed mine shop housed miners between shifts.
It was handed over to the community in February by Lord Allendale following an extensive renovation.
