THE kind nature of local cadets have earned them a national award.

The Hexham detachment of Northumbria Army Cadet Force received the national Revision Trophy for being the most effective force unit in Great Britain in raising funds for military charity ABF The Soldier’s Charity.

As part of the challenge, cadets across the country were asked to raise as much money for the charity in a year, with Hexham hosting a number of events to end with close to £4,000.

Hexham detachment’s outgoing commander, Lt Sean Ferguson, said: “For the past three years, Tiverton in Devon has won the trophy but we’re proud to be bringing it north.

“The award reflects the enthusiasm of the children at Hexham in wanting to help others, and it’s a very proud moment as I’m about to move from the detachment. This is the cherry on the cake.”
