TWO Tyne Valley residents have been fined by Newcastle Magistrates’ Court after travelling on trains without buying tickets.
Tom Smith (25) of Chareway, Hexham, was accused of travelling between Prudhoe and Hexham without paying his £5.70 fare.
He was fined £220, and ordered to pay costs of £150, a victim surcharge of £30 and £5.70 compensation. The case was proved in Smith’s absence on Thursday.
Darren Storey (32) of Glenholme, Slaggyford, was accused of travelling between Carlisle and Haltwhistle without paying an £8.60 fare.
He was fined £70, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £50, as well as £8.60 in compensation. Storey pleaded guilty via post.
