A WOMAN in her sixties has been killed after being hit by a train near Carlisle.
Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) were called to an area of rail track in Great Corby just after 9.20pm on Thursday following a report of a casualty on the tracks.
A BTP spokesman told the News & Star: "Paramedics also attended and sadly a woman, aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
"The woman’s next of kin are aware and officers are in the process of preparing a report for the coroner."
The line was closed between Carlisle and Hexham between 9pm and midnight to allow emergency services to attend the scene of the incident.
