TWO post offices were targeted by thieves within 15 minutes of each other.

Northumbria Police are investigating the theft of £2,000 from a post office at The Arcade in Belsay, 15 minutes after a theft from a post office in Darras Hall, Ponteland, on Friday morning. 

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said the incident at McColl’s newsagents on Broadway, Darras Hall, took place at around 10.45am. 

A man is alleged to have attended the Post Office counter and requested a sum of money in Euros.

After engaging with the shop assistant, the man asked to cancel the transaction before making off with a quantity of cash.

At around 11am, police confirmed a man entered the Post Office in Belsay and stole around £2,000 cash from the till when the assistant was distracted.

He is then believed to have made off in a vehicle.
