POLICE are warning residents in rural areas following reports of an attempted burglary.

A spokesman from Northumbria Police said a white Ford Transit van spotted across the North Tyne could be linked to an incident which saw two men allegedly attempt to break into a shed in Humshaugh on Friday morning.

Police also believe the van, which had green stickers on the back doors and a yellow light on top, was also spotted in the Otterburn and Elsdon areas on the same day.

Meanwhile, police are also appealing for information after a quad bike was stolen from Kirkhaugh, near Alston.

Offenders gained entry to the garage of the property and stole a Honda ATV 420 between Thursday night and Friday morning.
