A NEW Police and Crime Commissioner will be elected for the North-East next month.
Voters will go to the polls on Thursday, July 18 to vote for Dame Vera Baird’s successor as Northumbria PCC after she resigned from her role to take on a national role as Victims Commissioner.
In a letter to members of the region’s Police and Crime panel, Dame Vera said: “When I was first elected in 2012, I promised that neighbourhood policing would be maintained - this pledge has been kept every year.
“I’m proud that despite all the challenges, I have been able to protect the number one policing priority of local communities.”
Dame Vera Baird was first elected in 2012.
Labour councillor Kim McGuinness has been selected as Labour’s candidate to stand. No other candidates have been announced yet.
