PARTICIPATION levels may have been down on previous years, but an annual wheelbarrow race still attracted the same fierce, yet friendly, competitiveness.
The Corbridge Wheelbarrow Race, held on Bank Holiday Sunday, saw teams of two race around the village, stopping off at some of the area’s pubs for quick refreshment stops.
The winners of this year’s event was Darren Rutterford and Trevor Carter, who was designated the pusher, as the two friends dressed in 118 outfits zoomed around the course.
They received the cup, and £60 cash, for their success from Corbridge Royal British Legion chairman David Burnett.
The race, which started at the Corstopitum Social Club, was held in aid of the Royal British Legion and Corbridge Youth Initiative.
In addition to the wheelbarrow race, a children’s disco and fancy dress competition attracted local people.
