MANY people have labelled him 'Daft as a Brush' for attempting to walk 7,000 miles around the British coastline.

But Brian Burnie, the founder of the charity by the same name, has reached the halfway point of his epic charity walk by hitting 3,500 miles while arriving in Northern Ireland.

Brian, accompanied for most of the walk by his wife Cheryl, is undertaking the challenge to roll out Daft as a Brush's successful free transport scheme to cancer patients beyond the North-East, with the ultimate aim to create one million free journeys across the UK each year.

Brian said: "Cheryl and I are delighted to reach the halfway mark at Ballycastle, Country Antrim. It’s such a beautiful area.

"From the Baltic in Gateshead to Ballycastle, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many incredible people, some far from home who’ve had first-hand experience with cancer and the daily difficulties getting to and from hospital.”

To make the task that more challenging, Brian suffers from Parkinson's disease which can cause him to become tired throughout the day. However, he is more determined than ever to complete the task and is aiming at walking 15 to 20 miles each day.
