A TYNE Valley school is celebrating after receiving a positive Ofsted report.

Newbrough Primary School was rated ‘good’ by the education watchdog after an inspection on May 2.

The report was good news for the school, which was threatened with closure during Northumberland County Council’s consultation on education last year.

In a letter to the school’s headteacher, Jo Trotter, inspectors commented that the school had maintained its standards, while teaching, leadership, and safeguarding were all singled out for praise.

The letter read: “You have maintained and improved upon the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.

“Since becoming the headteacher you have raised expectations and developed your staff, so that the quality of teaching has improved.”

Mrs Trotter was pleased with the results of the inspection, and praised everyone at the school for their efforts.

She said: “It’s excellent news.

“We’re a team and it’s a team effort. That’s what I want to stress.

“It’s a recognition of the hard work that everybody in the school puts in – the teachers, pupils, and parents.

“The governors are also very strong. They give a lot of time to the school.”

And Jo added that the school was not necessarily looking to tick all the boxes to make the school outstanding.

She added: “We’re looking to provide a really positive atmosphere at the school for children and staff.

“We’d like the school to continue to flourish.

“It’s not so much about the outstanding label.”
