A Cumbrian man has died after being hit by a car in the early hours of this morning.
Police have confirmed that the 37-year-old man from Cockermouth has died after being by a Citroen car on the A66 bypass near Great Clifton.
He had earlier been taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, in a critical condition.
However medics were unable to save his life.
A police spokesman said that his "family are being supported by Cumbria Police".
The driver of the Citroen car, a 25-year-old man from Cockermouth, was not injured in the collision.
Police were alerted to the incident just after 3:30am this morning.

A Cumbria Police spokesman stated earlier that the force also wish to speak to the driver of a white taxi, "as a potential witness", who was spotted in the area at the time of the incident.
