LOCAL organisations and charities in Tynedale have teamed up to promote Dementia Action Week, a national scheme running from May 20-26 in which communities around the country host dementia-friendly events throughout the week.

Just a few of the events taking place in Tynedale include a public demonstration from Haltwhistle Dementia Support of Tovertafe, a game designed to benefit those with dementia, which the group are fund-raising to purchase.

Chrysalis at Tynedale will also be running a basketball session, suitable for people of all abilities, at the Torch Centre in Hexham, whilst Tynedale Dementia Action Alliance will host a ‘Living Well in Tynedale’ event in Hexham Abbey, which will showcase the local organisations and services available to both carers and those living with dementia.

The Forum cinema will host a free screening of A Space at the Table, a film by Peter Woods, which highlights what its is like to be a carer for a loved one who has dementia. The film it is not suitable to be shown to those living with dementia.
