TWO of the district’s talented young rugby stars have represented their country.
Tynedale Panthers Holly Thorpe and Maisie James both lined-up for England against Wales in an U18 match at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Holly played at full back, while Maisie was flanker in the match, a close encounter which Wales won 28-22.
Panthers coach Nick Oliver said: “It’s great to have two girls from one local club making their England debuts in the same match. “I’ve seen how hard they both work at their game and they deserved the opportunity.
“Well done to them both. They are an inspiration to other players at Tynedale and in Northumberland. Both girls had previously represented Northumberland, and had also trained with the England development squad.
